Air Quality and Pregnancy --Part 2

Air Quality and Pregnancy --Part 2

When pregnant, sometimes we feel fine but baby slows down. That is fine on occasion as long as baby maintains strength. As baby grows then the muscles should get stronger and stronger. So we want the kicks to maintain the strength even if they don't kick as often becasue they are tired or having a lazy day. But if the muscles are getting weak and the kicks become weaker than they had been in the past then you probably want to pay attention. The effect of most VOCs is usually neutralized with more oxygen. But prescription oxygen is expensive and may not be available. If you don't have access to it, for whatever reason, then there are other options available.

For occasional use or when traveling, we now have canned oxygen available. Below is a link to one of the less expensive brands.

If you live in an area where the problem is ongoing and you need a more long term solution then there are oxygen concentrators for home use, that do not require a prescription, such as the one shown here.

If you are looking for a supplement that helps your body assimilate more oxygen the there are several that have a repuation for doing so. Co-Q-10 (we always buy in a soft gel), Vit E (d-alpha) and l-arginine. Vit E is oil soluble (as opposed to water soluble) so the kidneys cannot process excess, so one should not take over 400iu per day. The least expensive of these is generally the l-arginine, as shown here.

If you are wanting to keep tabs on your oxygen levels in your body then there are oximeters available. This is a small monitor that is put onto the finger and it reads the level of oxygen saturation. The higher the number the better, we want it to stay in the 96-100 level.
